Kaman’s KARGO UAV is still in development, but the business expects substantial demand based on interest from the USMC and discussions with the US Air Force and Army.
Kaman believes it can generate a tenfold return on the KARGO medium-lift expeditionary logistics UAV after self-funding production and securing a future production contract with the USMC.
The quadcopter UAV, designed specifically for resupply missions, has an 800lb (363kg) payload capacity, a range of over 500nmi, and payload choices that include a conformal pod and an external long line.
The plane can also be shipped in a conventional shipping container and has a number of self-driving characteristics such as sense and avoid, precision landing, and navigation in GPS-less areas.
