The chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, Jai Ram Thakur, adopted the ‘Himachal Pradesh Drone Policy 2022,’ saying, “The policy envisage developing a holistic drone ecosystem built upon the foundation of Governance and Reforms Using Drones (GARUD).”
Himachal Pradesh has become the first state in the country to explicitly accept the public usage of drones with this new drone policy.
Himachal’s drone strategy focuses on developing drone-enabled technologies, developing workforce through the construction of training institutions, and establishing startup and innovation initiatives, among other things.
The initiative aims to spread the use of drone-enabled technologies across a variety of industries, including defence, transportation, health, agriculture, and more.
Drone technology’s potential in India
The Himachal Pradesh government has previously designated ITI Shahpur for training individuals to use drones in order to ensure a successful implementation of the state’s drone programme.
In addition, the Department of Information Technology has reached an agreement with Indian drone businesses Skye Air and TechEagle to carry medical and agricultural items throughout the state.
Skye Air and TechEagle have already conducted trials in the Himachal Pradesh districts of Chamba and Kullu, connecting numerous Community and Home Health Care (CHC) and hospitals in the area, as part of the MoUs.
The Union Budget 2022 aims to enhance the Indian drone sector by include a PLI scheme for the drone industry worth 120 crores, which is designed to boost local manufacture.
